Apple Dumpling Recipe
We love apples. We love eating apples fresh off the tree, we love the way an apple orchard looks, and obviously, we love drinking apple cider. Yet one of the best and simplest joys in life is the smell of apples baking. Hence why we want to share our Apple Dumpling Recipe with you. After all, September 17th is National Apple Dumpling Day! And for an extra boozy twist trying: try making the cider sauce in our recipe with The Good Cider!
- 6 Crisp and tart apples, fresh from the tree!
- A cup of The Good Cider – Apple
- Pie crust pastry
- 2 Tablespoons of dried and chopped cranberries
- 2 Tablespoons of crushed hazelnuts
- A Tablespoon of honey
- 10 Tablespoons of divided butter
- A cup of sugar
- A teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees (Fahrenheit), while the oven is heating peel and core the apples. Combine hazelnuts, cranberries, and honey in the center of all 6 apples. For each of the 6 apples, top with a tablespoon of the already divided butter. Set apples aside.
In a small sauce pan, combine lemon juice, The Good Cider, remaining butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Boil for 1 minute. Set aside.
Before baking, cut 6 squares, each approximately 7 inches from the pie dough, which should be 1/8 an inch thick. Place an apple in the center of the doughy square, and seal the apple within the dough, bringing the corners of the dough to meet. Place the dough wrapped apples in a baking sheet. Pour some of the delicious sauce over the dumplings, save about half the sauce. Bake for an hour, spoon sauce over the baking dumplings at least one more time while baking. Serve with fresh sauce spoon over the yummy apple dumpling. Serve with vanilla ice cream!
